There are many ways to be involved in your Union!
.
Become a Trustee
Audit the Local
Trustees are the checks and balances of the Local. Every quarter, the Local Executive brings all the financial records from the previous 3 months to the Trustee, and explains every purchase. The Trustee can then sign off on the records, or, can report untoward spending to the Region office. They are extremely important in making sure your dues get spent wisely.
Become a Steward
Stand up for the little guy
Stewards are the employees connection to the broader Union. It is important to remember that we are not a part of a Union, we are the union. But most times, when we feel we need support, we’re not sure where to turn. Stewards are there to help connect you with the support you need, or support you themselves through workplace issues. Becoming a Steward requires a dedication to your fellow workers, and an understanding that you will sometimes be called on stand up to management.
Attend the Meetings!
Be informed
Meetings are held semi regularly in the Local, and are usually hybrid (in person and virtual) so you can often attend from wherever you are at the time. If you come in person, you get the added benefit of Coffee and doughnuts, but more importantly you get to connect with your fellow workers. As a composite local, you will meet others from one of the 4 different workplaces we represent, and it is always excellent to make connections.
